10 Stunning Redwood Wedding Venues in the Bay Area and Beyond

If you have ever dreamed of getting married surrounded by towering redwood trees, the good news is you do not have to travel to the middle of nowhere to make it happen. Northern California has some of the most stunning, accessible redwood wedding venues in the world, and I have had the privilege of photographing at many of them. From secret garden groves inside San Francisco to enchanted forest estates in the Santa Cruz Mountains to old-growth redwood canyons in Big Sur, there is a venue on this list for every couple and every vision.

This is my guide to the best redwood wedding venues in and around the Bay Area, with everything you need to know: what each venue looks like, how many guests you can have, what it costs, where to get ready nearby, and what makes each one special.

Why Get Married in the Redwoods?

There is something genuinely magical about redwood forests that no ballroom or rooftop venue can replicate. The light filters through the canopy in long, golden shafts. The air smells like earth and pine. Everything gets quiet in a way that makes your vows feel even more significant. And the photos? They are unlike anything else. Redwood wedding photos have a timeless, dreamy quality that never goes out of style.

The Bay Area is one of the only places in the world where you can be in an ancient old-growth redwood forest and still be thirty minutes from a great restaurant and a nice hotel. That combination is pretty hard to beat.

1. Glen Oaks Big Sur, Big Sur

The Vibe

Okay, Glen Oaks is not technically in the Bay Area, but it is close enough and special enough that it absolutely belongs on this list. Located right on Highway 1 in Big Sur, about 45 minutes south of Carmel, Glen Oaks is a rustic, wildly romantic resort tucked into an old-growth redwood canyon alongside the Big Sur River. Think cabins and cottages nestled among towering trees, a bubbling river running alongside the property, and ceremony spots that look like they were designed by the forest itself. This is one of my most-shot locations in California and I am genuinely obsessed with it. The combination of redwoods AND the Big Sur coastline right nearby makes it unlike anywhere else on this list.

What You Need to Know

Glen Oaks has two ceremony sites. The Fairy Circle is an intimate woodland spot perfect for elopements and micro weddings up to 20 guests, completely ringed by ancient redwoods. The Redwood Grove Lawn opens things up with a grassy lawn still surrounded by the trees, accommodating up to 100 guests. For the most intimate elopements of four people or fewer (including photographer and officiant), you can actually get married anywhere on the property just by booking a cabin, no additional site fee required.

For receptions, the Big Sur Roadhouse restaurant right across the street offers a back patio with twinkle lights and outdoor heaters for up to 50 guests, or a full restaurant buyout for up to 100. One heads up: cell service in Big Sur is very limited throughout the area, so plan accordingly with signage for guests and make sure everyone knows the address in advance. Venue access for the Roadhouse starts at 3:30pm on the day of the event.

The best time to get married at Glen Oaks is late spring through early fall. Winters can be rainy and occasionally bring road closures on Highway 1, so earlier in the year requires some flexibility.

Cost

Site fees range from $1,500 to $13,500 depending on the season and whether you choose a ceremony, reception, or both. For elopements of four or fewer people, staying in a cabin on property means no additional site fee. Larger packages start at around $2,500 and go up from there depending on guest count and spaces reserved.

Guest Count

Up to 20 in the Fairy Circle, up to 100 in the Redwood Grove Lawn, up to 100 for a full Roadhouse buyout.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

You are staying on site, which is one of the best parts of Glen Oaks. The cabins and cottages are incredibly charming and give you that full immersive redwood forest experience from the moment you wake up. Getting ready in one of their forest cabins with the river outside the window is something I will never stop recommending.

Best For

Elopements and intimate weddings, couples who want the redwood forest experience combined with the Big Sur coastline, anyone who wants to stay on site and make the whole trip a getaway rather than just a wedding day.

The Vibe

Tucked away down winding, tree-lined pathways inside Golden Gate Park, the SF Botanical Garden Redwood Grove feels like a secret. You follow a path through the garden and suddenly the trees open up into a circular gathering space ringed with towering redwoods. It is intimate, sacred-feeling, and completely unexpected given that it is in the middle of San Francisco. This is one of my favorite spots in the entire city to photograph. The light in there is soft and filtered and absolutely stunning.

What You Need to Know

The Redwood Grove is available for weekend ceremonies only and maxes out at 60 seated guests, though up to 40 seats are typically available depending on current configuration (a redwood tree fell and changed the setup slightly, so always confirm current capacity when you inquire). It is not wheelchair accessible due to the pathways leading to it.

For the smallest and most intimate ceremonies, the Moon Viewing Garden is another incredible option within the same botanical garden. It is a Zen-like wooden platform suspended over a quiet pond, framed by gnarled trunks, with a maximum of 20 standing guests. It is one of the most unique ceremony spots I have ever photographed in.

Events in the Redwood Grove and Moon Viewing Garden must conclude by 5pm. No electricity is available inside the botanical garden, so if you need amplification or lighting, you will need a generator.

For micro ceremonies of up to 20 people with minimal setup, a one-hour package starts at $1,150. Larger ceremonies are priced separately and require a quote from the venue.

Cost

Micro ceremony (one hour, up to 20 guests): starting at $1,150. Larger ceremonies and receptions in the Celebration Garden are priced by quote. Contact the garden directly at gggp.org for current pricing.

Guest Count

Up to 60 guests in the Redwood Grove, up to 20 standing in the Moon Viewing Garden.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

You are in San Francisco, so your options are limitless. The Inn at the Presidio is a beautiful, historic option within Golden Gate National Recreation Area and only about 15 minutes from the botanical garden. For something more boutique, there are dozens of gorgeous Airbnbs throughout the Inner Sunset and Cole Valley neighborhoods right next to the park.

Best For

Elopements and intimate ceremonies, couples who want a redwood forest feel without leaving San Francisco, anyone who loves the idea of a secret garden tucked inside a living museum.

3. UC Berkeley Botanical Garden, Mather Redwood Grove

The Vibe

Nestled in the Berkeley Hills above UC Berkeley campus in Strawberry Canyon, this garden is a 34-acre living museum with over 12,000 plant species. The showstopper for weddings is the Mather Redwood Grove, a stunning amphitheater built right in the center of a ring of redwoods planted in the 1930s. Wooden benches are built into the earth itself. It is one of the prettiest ceremony spaces in the entire Bay Area, with a footbridge over a fern-lined creek nearby for photos. On clear days, you can even glimpse the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay from parts of the garden.

What You Need to Know

The UC Berkeley Botanical Garden is popular, which means they can have multiple events on the same day and wedding time slots are strictly set. You cannot extend or change your time window once booked, so it is important to plan your timeline carefully. The garden provides access to both ceremony sites and the Julia Morgan Hall (a beautiful 1911 historic hall with floor-to-ceiling windows) and the Conference Center for receptions.

The Mather Redwood Grove holds up to 200 guests for a ceremony. The Garden of Old Roses with Julia Morgan Hall maxes out at 82. The venue is available year-round from 10am to midnight.

Cost

Ceremony only ranges from approximately $1,100 to $3,000 depending on the space. Ceremony plus reception (using Julia Morgan Hall or the Conference Center) ranges from approximately $4,600 to $8,600 depending on the day of the week and spaces reserved. Microweddings run approximately $2,000 to $2,500. Always confirm current pricing directly with the venue as rates are updated regularly.

Guest Count

Up to 200 in the Mather Redwood Grove. Up to 82 in the Garden of Old Roses with Julia Morgan Hall.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

The AC Hotel San Rafael Downtown is a great, centrally-located option in Marin County, about 20 to 30 minutes from the garden, with a clean, modern aesthetic. For something with more personality, the Claremont Club and Spa in Berkeley is a stunning historic hotel in the hills that is much closer and offers gorgeous suites for getting ready.

Best For

Couples who want a true amphitheater ceremony with a real audience feel, larger intimate weddings (up to 200), anyone who wants both ceremony and reception in one stunning natural setting with indoor backup options.

4. Deer Park Villa, Fairfax

The Vibe

Deer Park Villa is in a category of its own when it comes to Bay Area redwood venues. This four-acre property in the charming small town of Fairfax, Marin County, is set inside what they call the Enchanted Forest, a circle of soaring redwoods that forms a natural cathedral. After your ceremony, guests stroll to the historic Bootlegger's Lodge bar to mingle under bistro lights, dine in the redwood grove, and keep the party going in the Dance Hall. There are fire pits, a late-night lounge, and a genuine all-night wedding venue experience. If you want the full wedding day in the redwoods, ceremony through dancing, Deer Park Villa is where it happens.

What You Need to Know

This is one of the most full-service redwood wedding venues in the Bay Area. Deer Park Villa provides tables, chairs, and a preferred caterer list, has a fully equipped kitchen, and offers indoor and outdoor spaces so weather is never a concern. The venue stays open until midnight, which means you are never rushed out. The late-night lounge is a newer addition and is a big hit for couples who want an after-party vibe without leaving the venue. Complimentary parking is available on site.

Deer Park Villa also offers intimate weekday wedding packages for up to 50 guests, which is great for couples who want the full venue experience but a smaller celebration.

Everything You Need to Know About Getting Married at Deer Park Villa

Cost

Venue fees start at approximately $9,000 and go up to $17,000 or more depending on the day of the week, season, and guest count. Weekday intimate packages are available at a lower price point. Inquire directly for current pricing.

Guest Count

Up to 300 guests indoors, up to 350 outdoors. Intimate weekday packages available for up to 50 guests.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

Fairfax itself is adorable and has a charming small-town feel, but hotels are limited right in town. The best options nearby are the AC Hotel San Rafael Downtown (about 15 minutes away) for a clean, modern boutique feel, or the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Rafael for larger wedding parties who need multiple rooms. The Mill Valley Inn is also a beautiful and atmospheric option about 20 minutes away, surrounded by redwoods.

Best For

Couples who want a full wedding day experience in the redwoods, from ceremony to reception to dancing to after-party, larger guest lists, anyone who wants a complete all-in-one venue rather than piecing together separate spaces.

5. Nestldown, Los Gatos

The Vibe

If you have ever wanted to get married in an actual enchanted forest, Nestldown is it. This 32-acre private estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz is unlike any other wedding venue I have ever seen. Towering redwoods, lush gardens, two ponds, waterfalls, whimsical sculptures, a tiny cocktail train that takes guests through the forest, a hobbit-style Fantasy Cottage, and a jaw-dropping glass and timber barn for receptions. It feels like someone took a fairy tale and made it real. I have photographed here and I can tell you the light through those trees is absolutely unreal.

The flagstone amphitheater sits at the edge of a forest-fringed lake, sheltered by soaring redwoods and ferns, with a hand-built pergola draped in wisteria as the ceremony backdrop. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful ceremony spaces in all of California.

What You Need to Know

Nestldown is not a full-service venue, meaning you will need to bring in your own vendors, but they do require you to use their approved list for catering, DJ or band, wedding planner, lighting, shuttles, and furniture rentals. This keeps the quality consistent but does limit flexibility, so factor that into your budget planning. There is also a noise ordinance: last dance ends by 9:35pm and all guests must depart by 10:45pm. Parking is limited and shuttle service is often required, which adds an additional cost.

For smaller celebrations, Nestldown offers minimony packages (Wednesday through Monday mornings) for couples who want the magic of the property with a more intimate and streamlined experience. These are a wonderful option if a full weekend wedding feels like more than you need.

Cost

Venue rental fees range from approximately $15,000 to $36,000 depending on the season, day of the week, and guest count. Peak season Saturday weddings sit at the higher end. Weekday and off-season dates are significantly more affordable. Always confirm current pricing directly with the venue as rates are updated regularly.

Guest Count

Approximately 125 to 200 guests depending on the season and package.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

The Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos is the closest full-service hotel and a very solid choice, just a short drive from the venue. For couples who want something with more atmosphere, the Fairmont San Jose is about 20 minutes away and offers gorgeous suites for larger wedding parties. Airbnbs in the Los Gatos hills are also a beautiful and popular option for getting ready with the wedding party.

Best For

Couples who want the full fairy tale redwood wedding experience, larger guest lists who want ceremony through dancing all in one magical property, anyone who has been dreaming of a venue that looks like it came straight out of a storybook.

6. Sydalyn Hill, Felton

The Vibe

Sydalyn Hill is one of those venues that people stumble upon and immediately book without looking anywhere else. Perched on a sunny hilltop in Felton, surrounded by the redwoods of Henry Cowell State Park, this family-run 20-acre farm sits at the most magical intersection of forest and sunshine I have ever seen. You have sweeping views of the San Lorenzo Valley in one direction and ancient redwoods wrapping around you in every other. There are two orchards, gardens, meadows, a 100-year-old barn, and a restored 1908 "Whiskey Cabin" that serves as both a portrait backdrop and getting-ready space. Chandeliers hang from the walnut trees above the dance floor. Edison lights wind through the canopy overhead. It genuinely feels like no one told this place it was supposed to be a wedding venue, it just grew into one naturally.

This is a family-run venue in the very best sense of the word. Owners Gwyn and Jonathan, along with their daughters, are hands-on, warm, and genuinely invested in making your day perfect. Full planning and day-of coordination are included with the venue rental, which is rare and incredibly valuable.

What You Need to Know

Sydalyn Hill hosts a limited number of weddings per year between April and October, which means dates fill up quickly and the experience stays intentional and unhurried. They bring your own vendors for catering but provide tables, chairs, a wooden ceremony arbor, wine barrels, wedding signage, candles, centerpieces, and a wide collection of rustic decor, which cuts way down on rental costs and planning stress. A dedicated get-ready room is available on the property. Parking is available on-site behind a private gated entrance.

For smaller celebrations, micro-wedding and elopement packages for up to 30 guests are available between May and October. They are currently booking 2026 micro-weddings and elopements, and 2027 for all events.

Cost

Prices start at approximately $17,000 based on current listings, with full packages varying depending on guest count, day of the week, and season. Micro-wedding packages are available at a lower price point. Contact the venue directly for current pricing.

Guest Count

Up to 150 guests for a full wedding package. Up to 30 guests for intimate micro-wedding and elopement packages.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

The venue itself has a renovated getting-ready space on the property, which most couples take full advantage of. For out-of-town guests or those who want a hotel nearby, the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz is a beautiful oceanfront option about 20 minutes away, or the Chaminade Resort and Spa in Santa Cruz offers a woodland setting that keeps the forest vibe going.

Best For

Couples who want a family-run, deeply personal venue experience, anyone who loves the combination of redwood forest AND open meadow AND garden AND orchard all in one property, and couples who want planning and coordination included so they can just enjoy the day.

Saratoga Springs has been around since the late 1800s, making it the oldest continuously operating picnic facility in the Bay Area, and it still feels like one of the best-kept secrets in the South Bay. Tucked into the Santa Cruz foothills just minutes from Silicon Valley, this fifth-generation family-owned property has natural creeks running through it, towering redwoods and oaks, and five distinct ceremony and reception sites to choose from. The Cathedral Grove is the standout, reached by crossing a quaint wooden bridge through a woodsy path, opening into a gathering of ancient redwoods that arch overhead like a natural cathedral. String lights wrap around the trees, there is a bonfire area, and the whole place feels genuinely removed from the outside world despite being so close to the city.

What You Need to Know

Saratoga Springs is a full-service venue with in-house catering, which takes a lot off your plate. Packages include the wedding coordinator, parking staff, grounds crew, a wooden arch, twinkle and bistro lights, a china package, a bonfire area, and redwood tables. A get-ready room is included in all packages. April through October are the best months, with tents available as a backup for rain. You can have multiple venue sites available for photos even if you only book one for your ceremony and reception, which is a really nice perk for couples who want variety in their gallery.

Cost

Site fees range from approximately $2,950 to $9,950 depending on the site and day of the week. Catering starts at approximately $80 per head. A Saratoga Springs wedding can come together starting around $12,000 all in depending on your choices.

Guest Count

Up to 300 guests depending on the site selected.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

The Inn at Saratoga is a charming boutique hotel right in downtown Saratoga and a very popular choice for wedding parties. Los Gatos also has lovely boutique hotel options about 10 minutes away, including the Toll House Hotel which is a consistent favorite for wedding weekends in this area.

Best For

Couples who want a full-service redwood venue close to Silicon Valley and San Jose, larger celebrations up to 300 guests, anyone who wants in-house catering and coordination included without having to manage a long vendor list.

8. Redwood Canyon by Wedgewood Weddings, Castro Valley

The Vibe

Redwood Canyon is one of those venues that surprises people. You would not necessarily expect to find a venue this beautiful tucked into Castro Valley in the East Bay, but here it is: a serene meadow setting with mature forest, towering trees, rustic wooden elements, a picturesque creek bridge, and a secluded ceremony site that feels like a genuine escape from the Bay Area hustle. The light in there is soft and dappled, the natural wildlife is present, and the whole place has a secret-garden quality that photographs absolutely beautifully.

What makes Redwood Canyon stand out beyond the scenery is the Wedgewood team behind it. They are known for being responsive, organized, and genuinely easy to work with, including for couples who are planning remotely or out of the area.

What You Need to Know

Redwood Canyon is a full-service venue offering four package tiers: Build-your-own, Classic, Premier, and Elite. All packages include planning coordination, catering, bar service, and day-of coordination, which means this is a truly all-inclusive experience. The indoor clubhouse serves as the reception space and combines natural beauty with a modern, elegant interior. Get-ready rooms are included. This is a particularly good option for couples who want a managed, stress-free planning process with a beautiful natural backdrop.

Cost

Packages start at approximately $3,550 for 50 guests and go up based on package tier and guest count. Contact the venue directly for current 2026 and 2027 pricing.

Guest Count

Up to approximately 200 guests depending on package and configuration.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

The Castro Valley area has limited hotel options, but the Oakland Marriott City Center and the Oakland Waterfront Marriott are both about 20 to 25 minutes away and offer spacious suites for larger wedding parties. For something with more character, boutique options in the Rockridge and Temescal neighborhoods of Oakland are a short drive and great for couples who want to stay somewhere with personality.

Best For

East Bay couples who want a beautiful forest-meets-meadow venue without a long drive, anyone who wants a fully managed, all-inclusive planning experience, couples planning from out of the area who need a responsive and organized team.

There is no other wedding venue on this list like Roaring Camp, and I would argue there is no other wedding venue in all of California quite like it either. This historic railroad and logging camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains offers something truly one of a kind: a 100-year-old steam train that carries you and all your guests through old-growth redwoods up to Cathedral Grove, an ancient fairy circle of towering trees at the top of Bear Mountain where you say your vows. The train ride alone is something people talk about for years. It is theatrical, romantic, completely unique, and somehow also deeply beautiful.

After the ceremony, guests make their way back down to Bret Harte Hall, a rustic 6,120 square foot barn with 32-foot ceilings, wrought-iron chandeliers, twinkle lights, a stage, and barn doors that slide open onto a lawn with fire pits and s'mores. The whole property feels like you have stepped into a different century.

What You Need to Know

The Cathedral Grove package (which includes the steam train ride) starts at $14,000 for the venue. The Schoolhouse Lawn package starts at $12,000 and the Barn package starts at $10,000. Catering is additional and you can use Roaring Camp's in-house catering or bring in a licensed outside caterer with a per-guest service fee. The venue accommodates 80 to 300 guests in the barn for receptions. A schoolhouse bridal suite is available for getting ready. Note that hotels in the Santa Cruz area can be limited and pricey in summer, so planning accommodations early is important.

Cost

Starting at $10,000 for the Barn package, $12,000 for the Schoolhouse Lawn, and $14,000 for Cathedral Grove with steam train transport. Catering is additional.

Guest Count

80 to 300 guests for receptions in Bret Harte Hall.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

The Dream Inn in Santa Cruz is a stunning oceanfront hotel about 20 minutes from the venue and one of the nicest places to stay in the area. The Chaminade Resort and Spa in Santa Cruz is a beautiful woodland option also about 20 minutes away. Book early for summer dates as both fill up fast.

Best For

Couples who want the most unique and memorable wedding experience possible, anyone who loves history and vintage character, larger guest lists who want a full reception barn with all the bells and whistles, and couples whose guests will be talking about the train ride for the rest of their lives.

10. The Brambles, Philo (Anderson Valley)

The Vibe

The Brambles is the furthest venue on this list from the Bay Area (about two hours north in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County) but it is so special that it absolutely earns its place. This is a venue that hosts only five to eight weddings per year, and every single one gets exclusive use of the entire property for the full weekend. The setting is a magical combination of a rustic redwood cathedral, an English-style garden, a Mediterranean-style fountain courtyard, and woodland grounds surrounded by the redwoods of Anderson Valley wine country. It pairs with its sister property, The Madrones, a wonderfully charismatic inn, so your guests can stay on site and the whole weekend unfolds as one continuous, unhurried experience.

The Brambles is anti-wedding-factory in the best way. No cookie-cutter packages, no rushed timelines, no feeling like you are one of forty weddings they are turning over this year. Just an incredibly beautiful, bespoke, weekend-long experience in one of the most stunning natural settings in Northern California.

What You Need to Know

With just five to eight full weddings per year, dates go fast and booking well in advance (often one to two years out) is essential. The combined Madrones and Brambles properties accommodate up to 38 on-site guests, with neighboring Indian Creek Inn and campground able to accommodate 60 or more additional guests with advance planning. Micro-weddings for up to 40 guests start at $7,500 and are available Tuesday through Thursday from May through September. Full weekend weddings start at $18,000 for up to 100 guests, with add-ons available for welcome parties, farewell brunches, wine and beer, and more. Full-size weddings are currently booking for 2027.

Cost

Micro-weddings starting at $7,500. Weekend weddings starting at $18,000 for rehearsal dinner plus reception for up to 100 guests.

Guest Count

Up to 40 for micro-weddings. Up to 100 for full weekend weddings, with additional off-site lodging accommodating more guests.

Where to Get Ready Nearby

Staying on site at The Madrones is the whole point and the experience is wonderful. The inn rooms are charming and beautifully designed, and waking up on the property the morning of your wedding is something couples consistently describe as one of the highlights of their weekend.

Best For

Couples who want a fully immersive, bespoke, weekend-long wedding experience in a stunning redwood and wine country setting, anyone who values exclusivity and intimacy over scale, and couples willing to plan ahead and travel a bit for something truly unforgettable.

A Note on Getting Ready in the Redwoods

One of my biggest tips for any of these venues: try to find a getting-ready location that matches the mood of your venue. There is something really special about starting your day surrounded by nature and carrying that feeling all the way through. Casa Madrona in Sausalito is stunning for couples who want water views with their forest. For SF Botanical Garden couples, a Golden Gate Park area Airbnb with good morning light is always a great call. And for the Santa Cruz mountains venues, staying in the mountains the night before makes the whole day feel like a true getaway.

Which Redwood Venue Is Right for You?

Here is a quick breakdown to help you choose:

Redwoods AND Big Sur coastline combined, go with Glen Oaks Big Sur. A secret garden ceremony inside San Francisco, go with the SF Botanical Garden Redwood Grove. Up to 200 guests with historic indoor reception space, go with UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. Full wedding day from ceremony to dancing in a Marin County enchanted forest, go with Deer Park Villa.
