What to Pack for a Yosemite Elopement
Eloping in Yosemite is an adventure, and a little smart packing makes the whole day smoother, warmer, and more fun. Whether you are hiking to a granite overlook at sunrise or saying your vows by the river, here is exactly what to pack for your Yosemite elopement.
I have photographed elopements all over the park in every season, so this list comes from real days on the trail. Pack for comfort and flexibility and you will be free to focus on each other and the view.
The essentials you cannot forget
Your marriage license and any park or wedding permits.
Layers, because Yosemite mornings and evenings are cold even in summer.
Hand warmers and feet warmers! These are a game changer!
Sturdy, broken in shoes or hiking boots for uneven granite and trails.
Plenty of water and a few snacks to keep your energy up.
A small backpack to carry it all hands free.
What to wear for a Yosemite elopement
Choose an outfit you can move, hike, and feel like yourself in. Flowing dresses look beautiful in the wind, but bring a warm layer or a stylish jacket for chilly overlooks. Hiking boots or sturdy sneakers keep you safe on the granite, and you can always swap into something prettier for photos. If you are getting ready in a cabin or lodge, make time for it. Comfort and safety extras
A few small things make a big difference: a headlamp for early starts or dark hikes back, sunscreen and lip balm, a small first aid kit, bug spray in summer, and a bag to pack out your trash. If you are heading up high, check the weather and trail conditions the night before.
Do not forget the meaningful details
Pack the things that make the day yours: your vow books, rings, a bottle of something to toast with, and a blanket for a picnic. I’ve also had couples bring little details of family or friends that aren’t there with them. Like letters their family wrote to be read on their big day.
